Elite young sire now in Reiland battery

Ayrvale Montana M13

Bought by Reiland Angus last November, Montana is out of elite donor dam, Aryvale Gloria G13, has a great spread of EBVs and impressive shape.

The bull is docile with a great structure and is an outcross to many main bloodlines.

Montana was diligently used late in the season over Reiland stud females to prepare for the autumn season.

Montana is in the top 10 per cent for heavy grain index at +$152, has a birthweight EBV of +3.1kg, 600 day weight of +134kg, eye muscle area of +6.1 sqcm and intramuscular fat percentage of +3.0.

Reiland co-principal Mark Lucas said selection was focused on production and fertility, soundness, temperament, longevity and avoidance of lethal genes.

“It’s a smart thing to have diversity across a breed and we will be looking at bulls with good data inbuilt with efficiency,” he said.

Mr Lucas said Hilary son and heavy gaining bull, Reiland Montana M1035, was retained for genetic progress and used in the autumn joining at Reiland.

Reiland Mackenzie M933 has been used over heifers, is +1.7kg for birthweight and +110kg for 600 day weight.

“He is in the top two per cent of the breed for calving ease and birthweight,” Mr Lucas said.

“We have also used Stoney Point Reality M911 – he has positive rib and rump, calving ease and great growth.”
