Reiland helps young cattle handlers broaden their skills

Hamish Maclure, of Tarcutta, won the Gundagai Show champion steer award sponsored by Reiland Angus.

Reiland Angus has given two young cattle handlers the opportunity to showcase their skills at the 2018 Sydney Royal Show.

Reiland sponsored the champion steer at the Gundagai Show, won by Hamish and Edward Maclure, Keajura Park, Tarcutta.

Hamish, 13, and Edward, 11, have been showing steers since June 2016 and operate their own Keajura Park Show Team.

“We normally do five or six autumn and spring shows with each steer before we enter them in a hoof and hook,” Hamish said.

“We have had nine steers so far.”

The brothers claimed champion steer at Henty and Gundagai, and reserve champion steer at Boorowa show.

They exhibited four steers at Gundagai as a practice run for the Canberra Royal Show.

Hamish and Edward placed second in the purebred led steer class with an Angus entry at Canberra, and second on the hook with a score of 87 points with their Limousin entry.

Hamish said the Reiland sponsorship enabled him to attend Sydney Royal Show with Yanco Agricultural High School to broaden his parading experience..

Edward also attended Sydney with Murrumburrah High School.
