Bull catalogue covering all bases for profit at Reiland

Cattle genetics with a focus on the key profit drivers for commercial beef producers will be on offer at the Reiland Angus spring bull sale on September 6.
The Lucas family will host the sale at Killimicat Station, Tumut, at 1.30pm, with 75 bulls to be offered with growth, weight for age, stayability, muscle, maternal strength and carcase excellence. The sale will be interfaced with AuctionsPlus.
Reiland co-principal Mark Lucas said 68 per cent of the catalogue were suited for specialist heifer and/or cow joinings.
“The bulls will be presented in surprisingly advanced order considering the poor seasonal conditions they have endured. The offering has all bases covered in terms of birth, growth, carcase and intramuscular fat,” Mr Lucas said.
“It is pleasing to see a steady upward price for quality Angus cattle relative to this time last year, with feeder steer prices a healthy 410-420c/kg, and the heavy cow price over 310c/kg. Beef producers can see some light at the end of the tunnel.
“It is a buyer’s market for those seeking to replace or improve their bull battery this year.”
Reiland Angus sold more than 500 steers last year to post a top 10 per cent for growth and carcase compliance. Steers aged 14 months were sold to Stanbroke feedlot, Chinchilla, Qld, to average 452kg off improved pasture and grazing cereals.
Mr Lucas said Reiland continued to scour the globe for superior genetics to help increase the profitability and outcross genetics of commercial herds.
Ranking top 2 per cent on BREEDPLAN for docility and IMF (intramuscular fat) and to 4 per cent for 600-day weight, Trowbridge BBB Versatile U15 has been added to the sire battery.
Mr Lucas said U15 was an imposing, easy doing sire with softness of skin, tremendous muscle expression and a great temperament.
Reiland has also announced an elite female sale is planned for March 2025.
