Where will beef prices settle in 2017?

The seminar, organised for Reiland Angus clients, will be held at the Quality Inn Carriage House, Wagga, from 1.30pm to 5pm.

Guest speakers will include commodity analyst Simon Quilty, of Wangaratta, and John Gunthorpe, Bovine Johnes Action Group.

Reiland Angus co-principal Mark Lucas will outline beef industry innovations gleaned from the recent PAS-Quadrant Beef Study tour of the US.

Mr Quilty, of the Southern Aurora Group, is one of the nation’s leading beef commodity analysts.

He will outline the contributors to the beef market price correction, and the keys to understanding commodity price fluctuations.

Mr Quilty will give a rundown on the forecast price outlook for the next 12 to 18 months.

Beef industry advocate John Gunthorpe will speak on the need for common sense in developing an industry relevant biosecurity plan and whether the Johnes Beef Assurance Score is worthy of industry implementation.

“Knowledge is power and this seminar is about beef producers putting their business in the best control zone,” Mr Lucas said.

“We are seeing feeder steer prices slipping from 350c/kg to 300c/kg in a space of 18 days.

“That is a 15 per cent decrease – we will hear information on where the price will go and how to counter that .”
