Win a trip to Beef 2018 at Reiland’s spring sale

August 7, 2017

Education and experience will come to the fore at Reiland Angus when one lucky buyer is selected to attend the international extravaganza, Beef Australia 2018, at Rockhampton.

Reiland co-principal Mark Lucas said the stud focused on rewarding purchasers, with the winner drawn out of the hat at the annual spring bull sale on Friday, September 8.

Mr Lucas said the winner would join the Reiland team to experience the globally renowned beef event on May 6-12, 2018, in Queensland.

Beef Australia 2018 will feature over 4500 cattle from over 30 breeds; a trade fair promoting more than 500 businesses; a symposium, seminars and property tours.

“This will be the third time we have taken a lucky bull buyer with us to Rockhampton and past winners enjoyed themselves immensely – we are happy to reinvest in our industry through education, information and developing long term relationships,’’ Mr Lucas said.

Reiland’s 2017 spring sale will be interfaced with AuctionsPlus for the first time, and catalogue a powerful battery of 38 two-year-old and 30 elite 17-month-old bulls.

“The bulls will present in working condition and have never been pampered with intensive feeding programs,’’ Mr Lucas said.

He advised bull buyers to focus on fertility, structure/mobility, genetic growth, convenience traits and carcase quality to optimize profitability.

Mr Lucas said BREEDPLAN could be used to eliminate sire lines that do not add value to the commercial cowherd’s bottom line.

“Sensible consideration of genetic diversity is a key element to long term breed prosperity,’’ he said.

Mr Lucas said a commitment to improving carcass quality was critical, including optimizing marbling, rib eye and red meat yield.

He said the Reiland catalogue would provide heifer bulls, with a birthweight of Angus breed average or less, and bulls above breed average for eye muscle, retail beef yield or growth.

“Our commitment is to deliver profitable, science based, environmentally adjusted seedstock to the beef industry,’’ Mr Lucas said.

Visitors to the spring bull sale will be able to inspect the Reiland display unit featuring the historic King Ranch weigh scales, and a history of the Angus breed and the Lucas family’s Reiland stud.
